It is possible to extend the default limitation of the maximum number of tags available for each CPU. This feature enables 5 times more allowed tags than the default maximum allowed number of the tags for the CPU.
When the limited tag count is exceeded, after the command “Generate code” it is shown in the CPU diagnosis view on the the “Statistics” tab, and an error message is generated.

To extend the limitation of tags a runtime license “OPC UA Tag Extension Runtime” is required.
License keys that have the product code AC500-eCo
are only valid for the AC500-eCo PLCs. Without the required license, the PLC can
only go into the RUN mode with an AC500 runtime demo license (if available).
Example for PM5650
Default maximum number of tags is 10000
Maximum allowed number of tags when “Enable more tags” option is active is 50000
If the count of tags for the CPU is 4000 and the “Enable more tags” is active, no runtime license is required because it is below the default maximum number. If the count of tags is 20000, a runtime license is required.
For the maximum default number of tags, see: ⮫ “Limitation of connections per protocol” and ⮫ “Limitation of connections per protocol”
For more information about runtime licenses, see: ⮫ “PLC runtime licensing”
To extend the default tag limitation do the following:
-
In the device tree, open the CPU diagnosis view.
-
On the “Statistics” tab select the “Enable more tags” checkbox to enable the feature.
Selecting this option prevents Automation Builder from showing an error message in case the number of OPC UA tags is within the range of the OPC UA tag extension runtime license. The need for having the license activated on the PLC is only dependent on the number of OPC UA tags and not on the state of this checkbox. If the number of OPC UA tags is below the limit, no license is required, even if the checkbox is selected.
-
Activate a runtime license, if required.
