Binary input refers to the data points that represent the state of the binary device. It indicates two states which are triggered by the single bit. The outstation transmits the status of binary input to the master, when there is a specific request or in an unsolicited message. The significant change in the state of the binary input, master receives this information to monitor and control the overall system.
Binary input can be reported in different variation which helps the master to interpret the status change accurately.
Event variation:
-
Without time – binary state will be reported without timestamp.
-
With absolute time – it will be reported with the exact time of the event.
-
With relative time – the relative time of the state changes of binary inputs. Records the time difference from a reference timestamp. This helps in reducing the amount of data transmitted, as only the time difference (offset) from the reference time needs to be reported to the master.
Static variation:
-
Packed format – it reports the current value of a binary input state without status flag.
-
With flags – it reports the current value of a binary input state with status flag.
